Tall Stacks is Back in 2006
Tall Stacks, the tremendously successful event that consistently places Cincinnati
in the national spotlight, is returning in 2006. The dates, a year earlier than
traditionally held and a week earlier in the month of October, are October 4-8,
2006.
The most recent Tall Stacks in 2003, which saw 900,000 people go through the turnstiles,
reflected significant changes from previous Tall Stacks events. Research following Tall
Stacks 2003 showed that patrons reacted very positively to most of the new event
elements, especially the music component.
"We're going to bring back everything that made Tall Stacks 2003 such a huge
success," said Pete Gomsak, Chairman of the Greater Cincinnati Tall Stacks
Commission. "That means the boats, themed cruises, big-name musical acts,
children's area and threatre and educational experiences."
Organizers said that, like the previous Tall Stacks, patrons will have in and out
privileges and receive tremendous value for their entertainment dollar, though the
price of admission will increase over 2003.
Tall Stacks 2003 had a financial impact of $48.5 million on the community, with 35%
of attendees coming from outside the greater Cincinnati area. Attendees came from
forty-eight states, as well as from various foreign countries.
According to Gomsak, Tall Stacks 2006 is kicking off its efforts on sound financial
footing. "Due to the generosity of many individuals and businesses which made
post-event contributions because they believed in and wanted to insure the future
of Tall Stacks, and the support of the City of Cincinnati, Tall Stacks has no remaining
obligations from the 2003 Event", said Gomsak.
According to Gomsak, the changes necessary to make the 2006 Event a financial success
will be made, including achieving broader financial support from sponsors, those businesses
which benefit from the Event, and from governmental entities. Hamilton County has already
made a $250,000 contribution and the City has a history of supporting the Event.
