Tall Stacks Puts Out Call for Volunteers

2,000 Volunteers Needed For October Event

CINCINNATI – How do you pull off a five-day festival with 17 riverboats, 350 cruises, 75-plus bands and or more than a million people?

With the help of an army of volunteers.

The Tall Stacks Music, Arts & Heritage Festival is back this October 4-8 and organizers are looking for volunteers to help in a variety of areas. More than a million visitors are expected to enjoy the triennial event, which combines the largest gathering of riverboats in the world with one of the Midwest’s biggest and best music festivals. With just four months before the festival, Tall Stacks has already recruited 1,000 volunteers and needs 1,000 more to ensure this year’s event is once again an overwhelming success.

“It takes us over two years to plan this enormous event,” said Kristin Krochmalny, volunteer coordinator for Tall Stacks. “With more than 17 riverboats, local and national entertainment and two shorelines of educational activities, Tall Stacks depends heavily on an enthusiastic and dedicated volunteer corps.”

Tall Stacks has also added a new element to its volunteer program this year, allowing groups of 25 or more to “adopt” an area of Tall Stacks and provide volunteer services in that area. This option allows organizations, businesses and other groups to volunteer together and get public recognition for their efforts.

Individual and group volunteers will be needed to do the following tasks (among others):

  • Greet and provide customer service to more than one million visitors

  • Assist/help organize the more than 200 school field trip planned for Tall Stacks

  • Help passengers board the more than 350 themed cruises

  • Wear period costumes and stroll through the event grounds greeting guests

Anyone interested in volunteering can visit the volunteer page on the Tall Stacks website, www.tallstacks.com; email volunteers@tallstacks.com; or call Volunteer Coordinator, Kristin Krochmalny at 513-721-0104.

The Tall Stacks, Music Arts & Heritage Festival returns to the Port of Cincinnati October 4-8, 2006. With 17 riverboats hailing from 11 cities and nightly headline musical entertainment onshore, the sixth installment of the popular festival expects more than a million visitors to the banks of the Ohio River. Official Tall Stacks sponsors include Duke Energy, The Cincinnati Enquirer, Hamilton County, Kroger Company, Fifth Third Bank, Bud Light, Procter & Gamble, Cincinnati Bell, Edyth and Carl Lindner and WLWT-TV.
