Hot Rise

After bursting onto the Southern California roots revival scene in the early '90s, Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys have securely distanced themselves from the pack of swing/rockabilly wannabes with literate, crafted songwriting, stellar musicianship, and the smooth power of lead vocalist Robert "Big Sandy" Williams. With the release of Night Tide on HighTone Records, they continue their musical growth with more vocal harmonies and occasionally even a darker side to the band's lyrics and instrumentation.

In addition to Big Sandy on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, the band consists of Bobby Trimble on drums, Ashley Kingman on guitar, and Jimmy Roy on steel guitar. The addition last year of Jeff West on upright bass is an added bonus.

Since their debut album Fly-Rite with Big Sandy and the Fly-Rite Trio on Dionysus Records, they haven't slowed down. In addition to their four full albums for HighTone, Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys also released solo albums in 1998: Big Sandy's glorious doo-wop tribute, Dedicated To You, and the band's own Big Sandy Presents the Fly-Rite Boys. A killer six-song EP from Big Sandy and the band entitled Radio Favorites came out in 1999.

Public demand keeps the band touring coast to coast year-round. When Paul McCartney (Sir Paul to the band) personally approved Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys to perform at the annual Buddy Holly tribute in New York City in September, 1999, they drove cross-country for the honor. In addition to their constant club and festival dates, the band his opened tour dates for Son Volt, Reverend Horton Heat, Morrissey, and more.
